The musicians' musician, multi-instrumentalist Mark has been playing in bands of many types for as long as he can remember.

His love of the blues and its influences on his playing styles becomes clear when you hear him laying down a mean solo.

Dave Draisey

// percussion

Founder and elder statesman of Route 61, Dave grew up listening to Mose Allison, Big Bill Broonzy and Muddy Walters. Whist still at school he played his first blues number on drums which was crocodile walk by John Mayall. Since then, he has played pretty much every style of music before returning to the blues ten years ago. His style suits blues across the spectrum; he likes to play to the song in a sympathetic way but with more than a little power!! Dave believes that all drummers should be heard, not necessarily seen.

Likes: Good blues music and French wine.

Dislikes: Rap, slap bass and New World Wines.

The Band

Chris Jackson

// bass

Chris started his musical life as a classical pianist, grew into new-wave pop as a keyboard player in the late ‘70’s and subsequently moved on to playing bass, never looking back. He played in blues bands in Yorkshire for several years before moving back south where work and family commitments meant a lengthy break from playing live.

After many years without gigging, Chris returns to the scene as bass player for Route 61, bringing his musical knowledge and thundering punchy rhythm to the band.

His many influences emanate from all genres of music, from Dvorak to The Who, anything where musicality and rhythm rule.

Likes: Good food, good times, good music.

Dislikes: Bad food, bad times, but no such thing as bad music.

Phil Harris

//lead guitar, vocals

Phil's adolescent years were defined by his love of guitar and music. At 14 he attended the first Bath Blues festival and at 15 he was out there gigging trying to live the dream. Phil has worked in bands all his adult life, from function bands doing the working mens club circuit in the 70/80's to touring America playing Gypsy Swing in the late 90's and through into the new millennium. For the past 20 he has worked as a guitar teacher in local schools as well as performing in folk, jazz and rock bands. For Phil playing with Route 61 feels like coming home: back to his musical roots.
